About the challenge

Hack the Skies is an annual hackathon run by high school students with the express intent of introducing other high school students to the realms of tech and business. It was started at DCTI in 2023 and has since seen one iteration online. This year, it is a hybrid challenge, being held online for the first two days and in-person at YSpace Markham for the third day.

Judging Criteria

  • Technical Complexity
How complex is the project? From a programming standpoint, does it sufficiently use various coding concepts, libraries, etc, and in a tasteful manner? If it is hardware, does it use a wide array of engineering concepts impressively and sufficiently?
  • Design
How aesthetic and considerate of accessibility is the design of the project? Does it effectively use design principles such that it's appealing to a wide array of individuals?
  • Presentation
Is the project presented clearly and concisely? Are the presenters able to communicate their intentions with the projects and why it matters?
  • Completeness
How complete is the project in contrast to the actual idea? Is it fully ready for deployment, or still in its alpha phases (which is fine too!)?
